Call Before You Dig

Planning a project that involves digging? Whether you’re planting a garden, installing a fence, or starting a larger excavation, it’s important to know what’s below the surface before you begin.

Gopher State One Call (GSOC) is Minnesota’s official one-call notification system. It acts as the communication link between people planning to dig and the utility companies that own underground lines like gas, electric, water, and internet (yep, that’s us!)

Minnesota law requires all excavators—including homeowners, farmers, and contractors—to notify GSOC before digging. This applies to projects of any size, even if you’re only using a shovel.

By calling 811 or submitting a request online, you can have underground utility lines marked for free. This simple step helps:

  • Prevent service outages
  • Avoid costly repairs
  • Protect yourself and others from potential injury

One quick, free call can make all the difference.

Before you dig, call Gopher State at 811 or visit www.gopherstateonecall.org for more information. Always call before you dig – it’s the law!
